Meet your BOD

2022-08-31

Come one and all to meet your super-duper famous board of directors for the KPHL. I asked all 3 of them very similar questions and got a wide variety of results. I figured I would turn this into a series until we met everyone in the league. First off you have BOD and then as a tease the next person is the most interesting man in the league. Answers lightly edited for spelling (@Chris.) Hope you enjoy reading and without further ado…

You might be saying to yourself… well that was boring? Yeah, I hear you. Mikey and Chris were a bit more long-winded. Let’s see what they had to say for similar questions:

COMPUTER GUY: notchristo

  1. Name: Chris, everyone knows that one. lol
  2. Age: 38, look like im 24, act like im 10, drink like im 80.
  3. Location: Canada's Cottage Country, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
  4. Fave Hockey team?
Canucks, they were the first team i saw live, and everyone in my family were typical east coast team fans (tor, mtl, bos), and at the time, the flyinngn skate jersey was a regular, and i liked it.  (was also in BC, and you cannot escape the nucks there)
  5. What do you do for work?
I'm a Product developer, software engineer/programmer/fancy button pusher, and Dev ops guy for an aviation regulations and scheduling company
  6. How did you get into the sim hockey world?
Everyones favorite ghost, Matt Landers was starting the first incarnation if the AASHL, and asked me to join from the islanders discord (i have/had a soft spot for them and the senators)
  7. Favorite hockey memory?
too many, but the steve yzerman slapshot is very vivid in my mind,  Czech's beating canada in Nagano, and JS Gigueres conn smythe in 2003, even though he lost (soft spot for former mooseheads) if i have to pick a canucks one, thats hard. I wanna say the dragon slaying moment, Bieksas OT goal against San jose, or "the shift" for the sedins, but i think the memorials for Rick Rypien and Luc Bordon realllllly sttick out the most. the franchise is a heartache.
  8. Explain your love of hockey stats and sim portal creation and all that stuff?
My whole life has been sports related. I played baseball and hockey before moving to England for a couple years where football (soccer) became the only choice. I played for the province and was close to a scholarship for college before I blew my knee out playing winter league. I took that time and learned some website stuff which I was doing anyway and started a site that was basically YouTube for soccer, before YouTube. it got massive, and as part of that I had stats and history of all the domestic cups and leagues in the world. I played a ton of football manager too around that time, I was like 18-20 years old. I went to college for web dev, graduated and as some people know, had some really, and I mean, reallllllly rough eye issues that left me blind for about 8 months. I had to sell off the domain name of my site to pay bills and vowed that I wouldn’t sell the emails of the 2m members I had, because I was (stupid) not going to let them be spammed. After getting through that - somewhat still alive, and working for a large pharmacy chain, I had an opportunity to work for a sports analytics company, which I took on, instantly. I didn’t even care what the pay was etc. Over the next five years I met the Patriots, Magic Johnson, Kevin Durant, and allll kinds of other people in the industry. I got to know how the data flows and what the teams do with it, etc. and it just sort of made sense to me. My whole life after coming back from England I watched hockey but never played it again, and this was as close as I knew I could get to it.

So, it sort of stuck. Factor in my career with sports, add the ability to make a website in a professional manner, (not to mention the lack of good alternatives to what’s there now) and I kinda see a path where I can do a hobby and maybe it makes some beer money, or not, but I like what it is, and outside of random guys named Todd, I like everyone I’ve met doing it. (don’t always agree, of course, but I harbour no ill will) so yeah, doing the petal stuff is my career/passion + my other passion + people I like... seems an easy choice.

  1. Favorite way to spend a weekend?
I usually go to my neighbourhood (Editor’s note: My Microsoft Word actually labels the extra U spelling as wrong but I left it in so it was authentic) pub for a few, but I play video games, or work on the portal here and there. the not too serious relationship I’m in pops up here and there, so i go with the flow. my works relaxed so weekends can kinda happen whenever.
  2. What makes you, you?
no idea. life experiences, I guess. I have lived through a lot of unique things, that i gloss over in the answer above, or weren’t said at all. I like to think I’m brutally honest, even when it seems like it hurts, and I like to play devil’s advocate to get people thinking about why they have the answers they do. I’m good for a bar chat. lol
  3. Favorite food or meal?
20 oz rib steak, loaded potato skins, garlic bread with cheese and a Stella Artois (or 2) on the side, from the micmac bar and grill here in Dartmouth nova scotia. Whenever someone comes out this well, I'll take ya.

ASST COMMISH: mikeyp

  1. Name: Mike P (editor’s note: He gave his real name and I just thought that it was too trusting of you guys)
  2. Age: 38 (soon to be at least)
  3. Location: Jersey Shore (that place where those trashy people ruined peoples perspectives on Italians)
  4. Fave Hockey team?
New York Rangers... Why? Because my father hated them (specifically Adam Graves) growing up.
  5. What do you do for work?
Field Service Engineer for a medical device company called Bio-Rad. Devices that test patient samples for different diseases.
  6. How did you get into the sim hockey world?
No idea how I got into the sim world. Been doing them since high school (roughly 1999). When I went into the military, my buddy would mail me what was going on with it, and I would mail him lines and what not.
  7. Favorite hockey memory?
Rangers fan!! Need I say more? (Hint: Begins with a 1 and ends in a 4)
  8. Your role in the league and why you chose that over being a team GM?
Just a member of the BOD. Assist Karp and Chris. No specific role, but I apparently took on the role of taking the complaints. LMAO
  9. Favorite way to spend a weekend?
Spend time with my wife and dog. Do some yard work. Watch A LOT of tv and chat with the boys in discord.
  10. What makes you, you?
What makes me... ME? If you haven’t learned by now. I’m kind of an a-hole. But I try to be that in a fun and sarcastic way. Not meant to intentionally hurt feelings but tend to at times. I love comedy and I especially love dark comedy where lines are constantly crossed. As comedian Anthony Jeselnik said in one of his comedy specials "I don’t have time for 'toon soon' I’m on a tight schedule". Lmao
  11. Favorite food or meal?
I've always had a massive love for my stepmothers "pasta fagioli". But I absolutely love Asian cuisine Thai/Vietnamese/Chinese/Japan/Korean. All sounds good to me.
