Washington Capitals at Game 50
2023-01-25More or less anyway. Is Washington to be the only franchise posting in this league ? Don't get me wrong, its nice to have the bully pulpit even if the team is truly terrible. We'll just stride up to the microphone while holding a megaphone and go full on Public Enemy. “Don't believe the hype” !
Then again that might cause some further season ticket cancellations and we don't want that. After all this is a simulated “business” that we are participating in right ? Maybe we can get an additional bonus for all this “quality” content we are creating yeah ? I mean we cannot write anything about the on ice performance of the team.
I suppose we could pimp one of our unrestricted free agent goal tenders. So lets go there shall we ? “Hey fellow Gms, do you need a backup goalie for next season ? Grab one from us. We got Antti Raanta previously acquired from the Tampa hockey team. We also got Jaro Halak playing for the NHL's New York Rangers who finally seems to have found his game. Since December Jaro has posted save percentages of 906, 914, 944 and 960. That ain't too shabby. If he keeps up like this the price to grab this guy is only going to go up. Brian Elliot is at 903 for the current NHL season, tied with Marc Andre Fleury and Cam Talbot. He is a lot cheaper too.
Further we have Scott Wedgewood signed for another season at a million bucks playing in our AHL minor league team. He is currently posting a 911 save percentage which is better than Varlamov, Korpisalo, Carter Hart, Adin Hill and Spencer Knight. He can be yours if the price is right !
Then there are the wildcards. Chris Dreidger who tore his ACL while playing for team Canada. Rehab is typically 7 to 9 months. Perhaps we see him in Seattle at some point down the stretch ? Chris is signed for another year with our club, so he isn't even a free agent yet.
Or maybe you are interested in Robin Lehner the snake farmer. He just filed for bankruptcy so you know he is one motivated guy to get back out there and earn some coin. Hip and shoulder surgery are certainly a red light, but he wouldn't be the first professional athlete to make a return after hip surgery. David Pastrnak, Tyler Sequin and Nikita Kuckerov have all dealt with hip issues, not to mention Nik Backstrom. Some random wesbite says that the return to sport rate after hip surgery is 78% and even higher for professionals at 96%. Lehner is signed for 2 more seasons after this one. He can also be yours, if the price is right !
“So Step right up and don't be shy, because you will not believe your eyes, he's right here behind the glass and you're gonna like him, 'Cause she's got class.
Not sure how many of you guys know this song but its a toe tapper. I also happen to have lived in the building where these guys used to jam. These guys are a one in a million.
