Golden Knights GM calls out biased refereeing
2023-03-03As the regular season continues for the Vegas Golden Knights in the KPHL, it's becoming increasingly clear that the referees are not on their side. Time and time again, calls have gone against them, giving the opposing team a distinct advantage. It's hard not to notice the bias against the Golden Knights, and it's becoming a major issue that needs to be addressed.
Let's start with the most recent example - game 58 of the regular season against the Calgary Flames. The Golden Knights were leading 3-0 when a questionable call was made against them, resulting in a power play for the Flames. It was clear to anyone watching that the call was a mistake, yet the referees refused to review it. The Flames ended up scoring on the power play, and the momentum shifted in their favor, with two more power play goals to follow on just as questionable calls. The Golden Knights ultimately lost the game 4-3, with many fans and analysts pointing to the refereeing as a major factor in the loss.
But this isn't an isolated incident. Throughout the regular season, the Golden Knights have had to deal with unfair calls as well as missed calls. In game 61 against the Carolina Hurricanes, the power plays were 7 to 0 in favor of the Canes, with many clear trips and hooks by the Hurricanes going uncalled. In game 62 against the New Jersey Devils, the Golden Knights again had seven penalties called against them, while only getting one power play themselves. These kinds of calls can be the difference between a win and a loss, and it's hard not to see the bias against the Golden Knights. These kinds of incidents happened far too often for it to be a coincidence.
So what's going on here? It's hard not to see a pattern of bias against the Golden Knights. Perhaps the referees are influenced by the fact that the Golden Knights are a newer team and don't have the same established fan base as other teams in the league. Or maybe they're intimidated by the Golden Knights' success – with the players they have, they would normally be the favorite going into any game, if it wasn’t for the referees.
Whatever the reason, it's clear that something needs to be done. The referees need to be held accountable for their calls, and there needs to be more transparency in the review process. The Golden Knights have a talented team, and they deserve to be judged based on their performance on the ice, not on biased calls from the referees.
In the end, it's hard not to feel frustrated as a Golden Knights fan. We know our team is capable of great things, but it's hard to see that potential realized when the referees seem to be working against us. But we won't give up - we'll keep cheering our players on, and we'll keep calling for fair and unbiased officiating. Because at the end of the day, we know that the Golden Knights are a team that can overcome any obstacle - even biased refereeing.
